TMF Artists

No better way to launch the summer season than Telluride Musicfest presenting chamber music house concerts from June 24th to July 5th.

We will present
5 evening concerts:
June 24th, June 28th, July 2nd, July 5th.
Plus a Philip Glass lecture/concert on July 3rd.
An Amateur concert dated TBD.

Maria Bachmann

Hailed by The New York Times as "a violinist of soul and patrician refinement", Maria Bachmann has been a featured soloist around the world and has been profiled by Mirabella, Time Magazine, CD Review and New York Newsday as one of the premier artists of her generation. Ms. Bachmann has been honored by Musical America and New York Newsday as "Outstanding Artist of the Year". She has been soloist with Leonard Slatkin and The National Symphony at Kennedy Center, with The St. Louis Symphony, and she has performed recitals at Kennedy Center's Terrace Theater, San Francisco's Herbst Theater, Merkin, Weill and Town Halls in New York, Boston's Jordan Hall, and at the Phillips Gallery and Library of Congress in Washington, DC. An eminent proponent of contemporary music, several of America's most prominent composers including George Rochberg, Leon Kirchner, Paul Moravec, and Sebastian Currier have written works for her. Acclaimed the "most exciting young violinist around" by New York Daily News, her diverse recordings range from the Beethoven and Mendelssohn Concertos on BMG/Conifer, to Lou Harrison's Suite for Violin and String Orchestra on Koch International Classics. Ms. Bachmann has also recorded for Argo, CRI, and the Connoisseur Society. Maria Bachmann studied at the Curtis Institute of Music with Ivan Galamian and Szymon Goldberg. She is on the faculty of Adelphi University in New York.

Alexis Pia Gerlach

Cellist Alexis Pia Gerlach enjoys an active career as a soloist and chamber musician, and has performed throughout the US, in Canada, Brazil, Israel, Korea, Japan, Switzerland, Italy, France, India, China and Uzbekistan. She has collaborated as soloist with such conductors as Mstislav Rostropovich, James DePreist, and Peter Oundjian, and has appeared as a guest artist with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the New Jersey Chamber Music Society, and at numerous festivals including Marlboro, Caramoor, Piccolo Spoleto and Aspen. Ms. Gerlach's recordings of the Rachmaninoff and Franck Sonatas with pianist Fabio Bidini are released on the Encore Performance Recordings label. Recent solo performances include recitals at the La Jolla Chamber Music Society and the Caramoor Festival, concerto appearances with the Orchestra of St. Luke's, the Metamorphosen Chamber Orchestra and the Charleston and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestras. Ms. Gerlach studied with Aldo Parisot at the Yale School of Music and The Juilliard School.


Jon Klibonoff

Jon Klibonoff has established a versatile career as orchestra soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician throughout the United States and abroad. His many awards include the Silver Medal of the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, the Affiliate Artists Xerox Pianists Award, the Pro Musicis Foundation Award and First Prize at the Kosciuszko Chopin Competition.Presently a member of Trio Solisti, and Associated Solo Artists, Klibonoff has also appeared as a guest artist with numerous chamber music groups including the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Shanghai, Miami and Lark String Quartets. For three seasons he was an artist-in -residence for the "On Air" radio series produced by WQXR classical radio in New York City. In recital, Mr. Klibonoff has appeared at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the 92nd Street Y and the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. Mr. Klibonoff can be heard in collaboration with many instrumentalists including flutist Carol Wincenc, clarinetist David Shifrin and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. His many orchestral appearances include the Baltimore, Utah, Buffalo and Denver Symphonies. A graduate of the Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music, He has been on the faculty of Hunter College in New York and Concordia College in Bronxville, NY.

Trio Solisti

Trio Solisti brings together three of the most sought after artists of their generation, violinist Maria Bachmann, cellist Alexis Pia Gerlach, and pianist Jon Klibonoff. The members of Trio Solisti have performed at Alice Tully Hall and Weill Hall in New York, Jordan Hall in Boston, the Ambassador Auditorium in Los Angeles, The Kennedy Center and Library of Congress in Washington, Shriver Hall in Baltimore, Spivey Hall in Atlanta, Pick-Staiger Hall in Chicago, and throughout the United States as well as performing in 23 countries around the world. The members of Trio Solisti have been frequent guests of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and their collaborations have included performances with Yo-Yo Ma, Mstislav Rostropovich, Leonard Slatkin, James DePriest, Dawn Upshaw, Richard Stoltzman, Gilbert Kalish, Ani Kavafian, David Shifrin, The Lark String Quartet, The American String Quartet, and the St. Lawrence String Quartet.

David Harding

Violist David Harding has performed in such venues as the Berlin Philharmonie, Concertgebouw, and Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall. His performances have been broadcast on BBC, NPR and Deutschland Radio and he is frequently featured on CBC Radio in Canada. David regularly performs at chamber music festivals including the Seattle Chamber Music Society, Strings in the Mountains, CO, Sitka Chamber Music Festival, AK. David is a member of Trio Verlaine and has made chamber music recordings for Sony, Crystal, Chesky, Innova and New Albion record labels. David’s latest CD projects include a recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations, with Triskelion for CBC records, Brahms’ Viola Sonatas and Horn Trio for Skylark Music and an innovative disc of flute, viola, harp works by Ravel and Debussy with Trio Verlaine for Skylark Music. He is currently Professor of Viola and Chamber Music at the University of British Columbia. David plays on a viola made by Pietro Antonio della Costa, Tresviso Italy, circa 1750.


Hsin-Yun Huang

Hsin-Yun Huang is recognized as one of the leading violists of her generation, and she came to international prominence in 1993 when she was winner of the top prize of the ARD International Music Competition in Munich and the Bunkamura Orchard Hall Award. In 1988, Ms. Huang was the youngest-ever Gold Medalist of the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition on the Isle of Man. These and other honors have propelled a career as soloist and chamber musician on stages of major concert halls throughout North America, Europe, and the Far East. Solo performances have included concerto appearances with the Bavarian Radio Orchestra in Munich, the Zagreb Soloists in Paris, the Tokyo Philharmonic in Tokyo, the Berlin Radio Symphony, the Russian State Philharmonic, and the Naumburg Orchestra in New York City’s Central Park. Ms. Huang has collaborated with many distinguished artists including Yo-Yo Ma, Jaime Laredo, Joshua Bell, Menahem Pressler, Joseph Silverstein, and Michael Tree.


Ayano Ninomiya

The New York Times hailed violinist Ayano Ninomiya’s 2004 New York debut recital in Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall as “deeply communicative and engrossing.” The second-prize winner of the 2003 Walter W. Naumburg International Violin Competition and a winner of Astral Artists’ 2003 National Auditions, she has been heard on a “Rising Stars” concert at Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Since her debut with the Boston Pops under Keith Lockhart, on its opening night in 1999, Ms. Ninomiya has appeared across the U.S. as soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician. She has been featured as soloist with the Boston, Zurich, Harrisburg, and Southwest Florida symphonies. As a JAL “Classic Special New Artist,” she has been presented in recital throughout Japan, including a debut recital in Tokyo’s Suntory Hall. She also gave debut recitals on the Ravinia Festival’s “Rising Stars” series, BankBoston’s “Emerging Artist” series, Chicago’s Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series, and at Boston’s Gardner Museum.


Wendy Sutter

Wendy Sutter, cello, is well known as a champion of new music, and enjoys a career as an international touring soloist of major works from today’s leading composers including premieres of Tan Dun’s “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Concerto”, and the US premiere of Philip Glass’s Cello Concerto. Having received degrees from both The Curtis Institute of Music and The Juilliard School, she made her solo debut with the Seattle Symphony at age 16. In 1994, she premiered “A Suite of Dances”, a duet choreographed for her and Mikhail Baryshnikov by Jerome Robbins playing select movements from Bach’s solo suites. From 2000- 2008 she was the cellist of Bang On a Can “All Stars” touring internationally and recording extensively. Ms Sutter has participated in numerous festivals including The Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society, Marlboro, Evian, and Mostly Mozart at Lincoln Center. In 2007, she gave the critically acclaimed world premiere of “Songs and Poems”, a solo piece written for her by Philip Glass.
